Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid appeared to be holding back tears today (March 1) as she spoke about the killing of a Ukranian child in a Russian airstrike yesterday.
The ITV programme's host presented the day's newspapers this morning, many of which focused on the Russian army's bombing of civilian areas in Ukraine as part of their ongoing invasion. As many as 16 children have reportedly died in the airstrikes, and Reid read from the Daily Mirror's frontpage which focused on the tale of a six-year-old girl who paramedics desperately tried to save.
The girl was pictured in the back of an ambulance wearing pink unicorn pyjamas and covered in blood. And Reid appeared to struggle as she read the paper, saying: "The medic in the background of that photograph was trying to save the life of that little girl.
"Her mother is in the photograph. She was sitting alone in the corridor outside sorting the few things that they had, that they took together to the hospital.
"The child's father was rushed into ICU as well, injured in the same shelling. Ukraine's president Zelensky says 16 Ukrainian children have been injured.
"Russia says it's not targeting civilians. The pictures tell a different story."

And in the north-eastern city of Okhtyrka, up to 70 Ukrainian soldiers have reportedly been killed in a Russian artillery strike. And today, the Russian defence ministry has issued a warning to Kyiv residents that it is preparing to hit targets in the Ukrainian capital.
Earlier, Russian shelling hit a maternity hospital near Kyiv, according to the hospital’s CEO Vitaliy Girin. The maternity hospital is located in the village of Buzova on the Zhytomyr highway where heavy fighting has been ongoing. All people were evacuated from the building.
