GMB's Susanna Reid fumes over 'remark during 'car crash' interview

Susanna Reid was left fuming by a remark made by a guest during a tense interview. It came as the Good Morning Britain and co-host Ed Balls welcomed Insulate Britain spokesperson Tracey Mallaghan onto the ITV breakfast show.

She appeared on the ITV breakfast show on Monday (July 10) to debate if it's wrong to protest at a wedding. It followed a Just Stop Oil activist crashing George Osborne's wedding in Somerset over the weekend.

A lone protester ran up to the ex-Chancellor and wife Thea Rogers as they left St Mary’s Church in the Somerset village of Bruton after saying their vows. Osborne looked confused as the grey-haired woman clutching a Union Jack bag approached the couple before throwing orange confetti at the couple, the Daily Star reports.

Tracey defended the protestors but found herself embroiled in a tense debate. She then called Susanna "darling" during the interview - which had the ITV star hitting back with: "You don't need to call me darling".

Viewers called it "chaotic" and "car crash TV". And many were annoyed on Susanna's behalf over the "patronising" comment.

@kieroncox said: "Car crash on GMB right now.' And @teefster wrote: "I typically loathe GMB getting people on to berate and prevent from making a clear argument. But this was a car crash and an absolute masterclass of how not to behave in a debate. Tracey did absolutely zero to advance the conversation or present facts pertinent to the issue

@nurse_palmer posted: How dare she call @susannareid100 darling uurrrgghhh @GMB she doesn’t even know her argument! Cannot substantiate her claims so resorts to patronising passive aggression #GeorgeOsborne #gmb."

@Superdryguy wrote: "Don’t call me darling. This woman was a car crash." And @MrDaveHawkins: "Having people like this on just turns people off - it just sets the cause back. #GMB."

Meanwhile @htbuk1992 said: "This is EASILY the biggest car crash interview on British TV since #PiersMorgan stormed off of #GMB several years ago. This is comedy gold! #GMB"

It comes after Tracey was caught raging at GMB host Richard Madeley off-air in October 2021. At the end of the debate, Richard heaved a big sigh he said: "Tracey, thank you very much for coming in but not answering a single question."

Turning to viewers, he said: "You're watching Good Morning Britain on ITV. As the GMB theme tune was played Richard was seen shaking his head, with Tracey leaning forward and jabbing a finger at Richard in response.
