GMB’s Susanna Reid cringes at clip of Rebel Wilson’s ‘edgy’ BAFTA gag to Will Smith

Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid cringed this morning as the ITV programme replayed a clip of Rebel Wilson’s BAFTA’s gag about Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith’s much-publicised open relationship.

The 42-year-old made the joke during Sunday’s awards ceremony after Will Smith, 53, won the award for Leading Actor for his performance in King Richard as Richard Williams, the father of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams.

Will was not in attendance during the ceremony, so director Reinaldo Marcus Green accepted the award on his behalf.

Joking about Will’s win, the Pitch Perfect actress said she thought his “best performance in the past year was being okay with all his wife’s boyfriends”.

When the crowd groaned in response, she said: “Come on, he never showed up!”

Good Morning Britain replayed the clip during Tuesday morning’s celebrity segment on the early morning show.

Hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley chatted about the BAFTAs with entertainment editor Andrew Arnold and played a clip for viewers of the cutting joke during Sunday’s ceremony.

Susanna visibly cringed after the clip, saying: “It’s tough making those jokes, isn’t it? You want to be edgy.”

Andrew replied: “That’s why I’ve always turned them down.”

As Andrew detailed Rebel’s decision to buy a new home in the UK, Susanna asked if that was just to get “as far away as possible” from Will Smith.

This comes after Will has hit back at Rebel after she joked about his marriage, setting the record straight during an appearance on CBS Sunday Morning.

The I Am Legend star insisted there has “never been infidelity” in his marriage, telling Gayle King: “Never. There’s never been infidelity in our marriage.”

The actor continued to say that he and Jada, 50, "talk about everything” with each other "and we have never surprised one another with anything ever.”

Will, who shares son Jaden, 23, and daughter Willow, 21 with Jada, said that he doesn't mind that his marriage is once again a topic of conversation.

He continued: “I have decided that chatter about my life can be of a benefit to people. I think that chatter is the first stage to having a real conversation and being able to truly explore if some of the things in your heart are loving, or poisonous.”

Will and Jada made headlines in June 2020 when August Alsina claimed that he was in a relationship with Jada, who later confirmed that they had been in an "entanglement".

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
