GMB's Richard Madeley weighs in on Strictly rumours as he admits to 'sleepless nights'

Good Morning Britain's Richard Madeley said he would struggle with "sleepless nights" if he signed up to Strictly Come Dancing.

The ITV presenter discussed the possibility of him joining the BBC Latin and ballroom show in the coming weeks, as he confessed he is an awful dancer and would "embarrass" himself and his family no end.

Richard is used to reality TV, having appeared on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here last year, but his experience was cut short as he suffered a dizzy spell and had to be rushed to hospital. He was fit to return but because had broken the Covid bubble on the show, he was forced to make an early exit, leaving his campmates devastated.

As Strictly makes it return with continuous line-up announcements, Richard has weighed in on the possibility of him on the show.

Speaking on the ITV breakfast show today, he said: "Let me just tell you two things here. Lay this on the line. I don't even dance at home alone in private because I would embarrass myself."

Charlotte Hawkins - who starred on the show in 2017 - reassured him: "That doesn't matter, no dancing skills required."

Richard then insisted it had been well over a decade since he danced in public - and it didn't go so well.

"The last time I danced in public, it was 10 years ago and a family wedding. I'd drank a couple to get my courage up, and all I can tell you, I danced with my eyes closed for a little bit and I opened them and everybody had stopped talking. They were just staring and I very quietly put my head down and walked off again. If I signed up to it, I wouldn't sleep at night."

Radzi Chinyanganya - who was standing in as entertainment presenter on the show today for Richard Arnold - only knows too well about being on a reality show, having taken part in Dancing On Ice.

He told him: "You'd go on a journey Richard, you'd start a zero, end a hero," as Charlotte backed Richard going on the show.

Speaking about the possibility, she said: "Listen, if you're not signed up already, they'll be dialling as we speak, because they're thinking - this will be amazing, you're like gold dust."

Richard appeared on I'm A Celebrity last year, where his "funny turn" saw him leave the show early. In a chat with presenters Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly, he admitted he was gutted to have left so early on.
