GMB's Richard Madeley 'couldn't give a stuff' as he responds to complaints backlash

Good Morning Britain's Richard Madeley "doesn't give a stuff" about the complaints he receives.

The ITV presenter - who regularly takes the helm of the breakfast show alongside Susanna Reid - insists he isn't worried about sparking a backlash with his comments he makes on the programme.

It comes after Richard's comments about death threats made against Sir Keir Starmer were subjected to over 800 complaints of Ofcom, after he appeared to 'play down' the threats.

The Leader of the Opposition was subjected to several death threats after Prime Minister Boris Johnson made the false allegation that Keir had failed to prosecute paedophile Jimmy Savile and during the show, journalist Andrew said "politicians get that all the time", to which Richard replied: "Well I was going to say, actually, is that that big a deal?"

Now Richard has responded to backlash over his 'controversial' comments over the past few months in a new interview.

"Virtually any day that I do Good Morning Britain, you can go on Twitter an hour later and there will be some Twitter storm kicking off over something I’ve said or done," he told Express.co.uk.

"You have to decide whether it matters, whether it actually is going to have any bearing on what you say or do the next day, or whether you will be offered another contract, or if people will spit on you in the street."

Asked if the criticism matters to him, he replied: "It doesn’t have any effect at all."

Whilst Richard admits there are times where he says something that is "genuinely controversial" or a "genuine mistake", he insists he has never had a "contract withdrawn" over his comments.

"I've never had a contract withdrawn or altered. It doesn’t cross over into real life. I couldn't give a stuff!" he shared.

Richard has presented GMB for several months (ITV)

"I really, genuinely, couldn’t give a stuff because I know that it doesn't matter. I'm still here and I’m still being asked to work, and nobody spits on me in the street, there is no impact in the real world."

Following Richard's comments last week, many viewers called for him to be axed from the programme.

"WHY do you continue to employ #richardmadeley after his crass and incendiary comments regarding @Keir_Starmer‘s death threats?" one viewer penned on social media.

Another added: "Please, please get rid of Richard Madeley. His insincere apology this morning illustrates his vanity and self obsession."
