Kate Garraway has said she doesn’t think she would have “swiped right” on her husband Derek Draper on a dating app.
The Good Morning Britain presenter hosted the show alongside ITV news editor Paul Brand, who made his debut on the morning news programme.
The presenters hosted a discussion about the dating app Tinder, to mark the 10-year anniversary of the app, which was first launched in 2012.
Kate said of the dating apps: “I’ve got a friend who’s married with a couple of kids and they met through an app, so we definitely know it works.”
She continued: “I definitely was way too old to have used apps, so I haven't got any personal experience of it.”
She then added: “But I’m not sure I would have swiped right for my husband – or him me.
“We don't know until you meet somebody and have that connection. But they say that’s the way people do it now, they just don’t get out and see people.”
The comment came after host Kate shared a health update with ITV viewers on her husband Derek Draper, after his recent health scare.
It came during a chat with rail union boss Mick Lynch amid the rail strikes enveloping the UK's train network.
She told the RMT union boss of her own experiences with rail staff recently, amid ongoing staff shortages, but praised the rail worker's continued high levels of service.
Kate then said: "I spend pretty much all of my time on trains, or in hospital with Derek."
The former political lobbyist, 55, was rushed to A&E with sepsis in July as he continues to battle the health issues he has had since contracting Covid in 2020.
Kate says her husband is now finally "back on the right side of it" ahead of her return to work on GMB and Smooth Radio after three weeks off.
Sharing an update with fans ahead of her return to work, she wrote: “Thank you so so much for all your messages of support – they really do mean the world to me & the whole family.
“I have taken some time off GMB, Smooth Radio & Garraway’s Good Stuff in the last 3 weeks as Derek’s health took an unexpected & frightening turn for the worse that landed him back in intensive care & fighting for his life – again.
“Thanks to the amazing NHS teams & his own extraordinary life force & spirit Derek – please god – is back on the right side of it now and I'm so looking forward to seeing you all back on GMB from 6 a.m tomorrow & Smooth Radio. Love & see you in the morning!”
Kate had stepped down from the ITV daytime show for three weeks to stay by Derek's side as she cared for him and their family.
Former political advisor Derek is the worst affected living Covid patient in the UK after spending 13 months in hospital.
The dad-of-two returned home but has been unable to fully communicate and has issues with mobility and has struggled with major health problems.
