GMB's Kate Garraway mortified by daughter's remark to Gemma and Michael Owen at NTAs

Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway was mortified as she shared her daughter's reaction to meeting Michael and Gemma Owen.

The broadcaster fronted today's edition of the ITV news programme alongside Ben Shephard. Kate was in jubilant spirits after Caring For Derek won the Best Authored Documentary prize at the National Television Awards last night.

Kate attended the glitzy event at the Ovo Arena, Wembley, alongside her daughter, Darcey, after she found out last minute that she had a plus one. Richard Arnold appeared on the show to discuss the latest entertainment news and he was in hysterics as he said Darcey was blown away by the stars on the red carpet.

He said: "I am used to people looking through me on red carpets, just in case anybody more important is in the room. But my goodness me, the shade from Darcey when anyone from Love Island turned up."

Love Island star Gemma Owen attended the event alongside her former Michael. Richard said Darcey interrupted him mid interview to meet the reality TV star.

Kate put her head in the hands as she branded the encounter with Gemma and her former Liverpool FC striker dad as "embarrassing". She said: "Darcey burst in and said 'I can't believe it's you, Gemma'. Michael said 'you probably don't even know who I am' and she said 'no, I know you. You used to be a footballer, didn't you."

Kate was overwhelmed when she picked up the prize last night as she issued an update on her husband's condition. She said: "Well, I really didn’t expect this. So the mercy of that is this is going to be brief because I have very little prepared. I want to thank all of you.

"I brought my daughter here Darcey, we managed to speak to Derek – he is back in hospital at the moment fighting on so incredibly and we’re hoping he’s coming home again."
