GMB's Ed Balls branded 'disrespectful' by fuming Scots after calling kilt a 'skirt'

Good Morning Britian presenter Ed Balls has been slammed by Scottish viewers for calling a kilt a 'skirt'.

During Tuesday's show, presenter Richard Arnold turned up in full Scottish spirit with bagpipes, a kilt and even a Scottish accent in celebration of Burns Night.

But viewers were not impressed when co-host Ed Balls referred to the traditional Scottish kilt as a "skirt".

The presenter was co-hosting this morning alongside Susanna Reid, as viewers slammed him as 'disrespectful' and 'ignorant' after his comments.

Viewers took to social media as the show aired to vent their frustrations on the presenters comments.

One user tweeted: "That's an awful Scottish accent Richard and calling a KILT a Skirt just sums up Ed the balls and how disrespectful he really is"

"So, today you refer to kilt as a skirt then go on to ask if Richard is naked underneath his "skirt". 1. It's a kilt 2. Do you ask female guests if they're naked underneath their "skirt"? @edballs is better than this.... usually," ranted another.

Another added: "I was quite happy to turn on my tv and see @edballs presenting….. right up to the point he called the kilt a skirt, how ignorant"

" @GMB Oh Gosh thanks so much. Talking about (mocking) Scotland in such a positive way. Ed Balls calling a kilt a skirt, that was hilarious.....not! Get @RichardAArnold to dress up as Shakespeare next and talk like a 16th century English person," someone else said.

Another chimed in: "Ed Balls get it right bigman its a Kilt not a skirt".

GMB's Richard had surprised viewers today as he donned a kilt and let out his Scottish accent in honour of Burns Night.

Richard, 52, was born in Andover in England before moving up north to Inverurie in Aberdeenshire when he was around 11-years-old and went onto study at University of Edinburgh.

The ITV presenter made a storm on GMB today as he walked on stage to the sound of bagpipes, much to the delight of co-hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls.

The presenting duo even joked about Richard being naked under his kilt as he made a grand entrance to the show to the sound of the bagpipes.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am-9am on ITV.
