GMB's Ed Balls asks Nigel Farage 'can't you just retire now' amid Brexit backlash

Former UKIP leader and Brexit frontman Nigel Farage appeared on ITV's Good Morning Britain today, and caused quite a stir with hosts and viewers watching at home.

GMB hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid struggled to keep their political opinions to themselves when interviewing the ex-European Parliament member. Before the politician came on, Lorraine Kelly even admitted that she "promised herself she wouldn't say anything".

Farage appeared on the show to talk about the latest Brexit changes to EU goods rules that could see a hard border drawn across Northern Ireland.

Former Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer Ed Balls, who is presenting on GMB, had a dig when he said to Farage "Can't you just retire now?" as he argued Brexit was done.

His co-star Susanna Reid then added: "Brexit is done, the final piece of the jigsaw has been placed, you can hang up your gloves, it's all over."

Farage hit back: "When you look at what the Prime Minister said how could you not support it? it sounded terrific that he had these amazing concessions and hey what a victory we could eat the same sausages on cocktail sticks at cocktail parties in Belfast and London, alright I am being sarcastic but it looked like....."

Susanna quipped: "Well no that's actually true though isn't it," as she smirked live on-air at the comment appearing amused by the audacity and hinting at the partygate scandal of gatherings held by government and Conservative Party staff during the Covid pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

Farage continued: "The real point is this why are the DUP upset because succeeding Prime Ministers haven't told them the truth.

"Boris Johnson said there would be no border in the Irish sea and there was one and said if anyone has to fill in customs forms get them to ring me in downing street."

"And he'll chuck them in the bin," said Susanna

"That wasn't true," responded Farage sharply to the Good Morning Britain host.

As the interview concluded, Susanna added: "The public are not the only ones suffering 'Brexhaustion'" as she sarcastically coughs before moving on with the show's schedule on what's coming next.

Viewers took to Twitter to also share their opinions on the main face of Brexit's leave campaign as they took aim at Farage.

"I don't know why we still have to have Nigel Farage, the nicotine stained nobody on our screens. He looks like a toad who's enjoying licking a wasp," said one Twitter user.

Another quipped: "Some mornings Nob is not enough. Nigel Farage on GMB. C**t."

"Oh FFS just give it a rest Nigel, nobody gives a toss what you think," added a third person.

Someone else said :"If Nigel Farage had any integrity and was 100% sure he could run this country successfully why does he not grasp this chance to deliver what he orchestrated. When are you leaving?"

"Well, some good news is that #nigelfarage will be fucking off now," responded someone else as the show moved on.
