Good Morning Britain’s Ben Shephard told his co-host Susanna Reid how his midwife ‘height-shamed’ him at the birth of his oldest son.
The ITV presenter had told the studio on the early morning programme how a fellow parent at his son’s school was surprised he was the parent of his son Sam, given how much taller his firstborn is.
He said: "It was Sam's first day of his last year at school. I was talking to someone the other day and I was with Sam and they couldn't believe he's my son."
Susanna then joked: "They can't believe he's your son because you look so young. You could be brothers," to which Ben replied: "It's also because he's enormous and they're questioning the lineage."
Ben, who stands at 1.77 m in height, then hastily added with a smile: “I’m above average height though, before we go any further.”
Co-host Susanna then quickly replied: “Don’t be heightist”, as Ben agreed he shouldn't be.
He said: “That’s what I say to people. I said that to the midwife the day he was born.”
He then explained that in 2005: “She looked at me and looked at him the day he was born and said 'Let's hope his uncle’s tall’.”
Laughing, Ben concluded: “I was being height-shamed by the midwife the day Sam was born.”
The Tipping Point host is dad to two sons, Sam and Jack, who he shares with wife Annie Perks at their home in Richmond, after the couple married back in 2004.
The 47-year-old’s career began in 1998 when he took on the role of presenter on Channel 4 ’s The Bigger Breakfast alongside a number of household names.
Back then, the TV personality was in the company of Dermot O’Leary, Denise Van Outen, Melanie Sykes and Josie D’Arby on the show.
Both Ben and co-host Susanna were off the ITV show for a series of weeks as they enjoyed a summer break from the show, but have since returned to helm Good Morning Britain this month.
The main ITV presenters like Ben and Susanna always take a summer break, as do the likes of This Morning's Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.
Since Piers Morgan's departure from Good Morning Britain, there has been a "supergroup" of male presenters joining Susanna on the show, including Ed Balls, Richard Madeley and Adil Ray.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
