GMB's Ben Shephard quizzed over Strictly amid 2022 line-up rumours

Good Morning Britain presenter Ben Shephard was put on the spot by Ranvir Singh on today's show as she quizzed whether this would be the year he takes part in Strictly Come Dancing. It comes as Kym Marsh and Will Mellor have been the first two celebrities confirmed to be joining the 2022 line-up.

During a segment on Thursday's Good Morning Britain, Ranvir Singh, who is currently standing in for Lorraine, joined GMB's Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard to discuss what was coming up in the show. But after mentioning Strictly, Ranvir was keen to know if Ben had been given "permission" and was finally going to take part in the BBC One show.

It has previously been reported by The Mirror that 47-year-old Ben's wife Annie has not wanted him to do the show over concerns of the 'Strictly curse'. The pair got married in 2004 and share two children.

"I am just going to text Annie Ben, to check whether she is giving you permission this year," Ranvir joked: "20 years it has been. They ask you every year. Is this the year Ben?"

Kate joined in the conversation adding: "Actually this would be a good year for you because you could blame your ACL injury couldn't you? It seems to get you out of everything!" Ben replied: "Yes this is true, no I blamed my ACL last year for not doing it. I think you'll be negative unfortunately Ranvir but give it a go you never know!"

The first two contestants joining the Strictly Come Dancing line-up were revealed on BBC Breakfast on Thursday. Actor Will Mellor said it was out of his "comfort zone" and will be "a huge challenge" whilst fellow actor and former Hear'Say member Kym Marsh said she was "nervous" but looking forward to being part of the series.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV and ITV Hub from 6am and Lorraine follows from 9am.
