GMB's Alex Beresford 'calls in Met Police' after being targeted by racist trolls

Good Morning Britain's Alex Beresford has reportedly called in the police after he was subject to 'vile' racist abuse on Twitter.

The former resident weatherman, 41, reported an incident to the Met Police last month after he was targeted by trolls, Mail Online reports.

It comes a week after Alex shared an abusive tweet directed at him on Twitter after he was replaced by Laura Tobin.

An inside source told the MailOnline: "He gets so much hate on Twitter and, after this particularly despicable comment, he decided to go to the police. They are now looking into it.

"Alex calls a lot of these people out and tries to shame them but it reaches the point where they have to be properly investigated by officials.

"The level of abuse towards him is extraordinary, it is a disgrace. Like many celebrities he will take so much but it gets to the point when something serious needs to be done and the authorities have to get involved."

Last week the official GMB Twitter account posted a video of Laura as she presented the weather, but one foul mouthed hater took the opportunity to send abuse Alex’s way.

Alex took a screenshot of the horrific comment, which read: “Thank you for coming back, cannot stand that [unrepeatable]."

The Bristol-born presenter didn't hesitate to call out the racist, saying: “Andrew, you’ve made a typo there!”

Fans were appalled by the abuse and reported it to Twitter, but the social media firm claimed the comment did not break its safety policies.

It wrote: "After reviewing the available information we want to let you know that @AndrewH1508 hasn’t broken our safety rules. We know this isn’t the answer you’re looking for. If this account breaks our policies in the future, we’ll notify you."

Alex previously clashed with former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan over Oprah Winfrey’s interview with Meghan and Harry (ITV)

Fans were shocked that Twitter didn't take further action, with one user replying: "Words… fail me. How is this still allowed on here? Why isn’t it stamped out at source? So sorry you have to put up with this Alex."

Another said: "Reported. Very sad that people are still having to tolerate this level of hatred."

Alex has unfortunately been subject to racist throughout his time on GMB and opened up about his struggles in 2021.

He previously clashed with former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan over Oprah Winfrey’s interview with Meghan and Harry.

Piers eventually stormed off the GMB set amidst their altercation which resulted in his resignation and Alex spoke about the experience in an article for The Telegraph.

He said that he had been “forced to step away from Twitter and Facebook” because the abuse from users was “getting too much,” despite the fact that he is a “strong person” but is “not made of steel”.
