GMB's Adil Ray apologises as Ukraine millionaire who bombed his own home swears on air

Good Morning Britain’s Adil Ray apologised to ITV viewers after a Ukrainian millionaire swore live on air during an interview early on Monday morning.

Businessman Andrey Stavnitser appeared on the programme remotely from Poland to discuss his Ukrainian home, which he fled in the wake of the Russian military assault on the programme.

Andrey told Adil and co-host Kate Garraway how he asked the Ukrainian military to bomb his home near Kyiv after he discovered the Russian army were occupying the property and using it as a base for their attacks on the war-torn country.

Kate asked Andrey about his “position” on losing his home, saying: “You obviously have done well, you’re a successful businessman and many people in Ukraine had successful lives they’ve had to watch be destroyed. Is it because you could afford to lose your home?”

Andrey replied: It’s a very simple thing. If you had asked me two months ago what my feelings would be if some hostile military people were in my house, I would say fury and anger.

“However, this is not what I felt. I felt disgusted. I felt dirty. So, it was an obvious decision.

“It’s not about money. It's about effort put into the house. I just finished building it. It was a beautiful house.

“I want to do everything possible to help Ukraine win, because I think we’re safeguarding Europe’s safety.”

He then added: “It is important for us to keep those b******s out of our lands. It’s just a little piece I could do.”

In the studio, Adil then said: “We’ll just apologise for your choice of language there, but I think a lot of people might well agree with your sentiment.”

This comes after Richard Madeley was criticised after questioning why rape was a weapon of war against Ukrainian civilians.

The 65-year-old presenter discussed the horrifying reports that Russian troops have used rape as a 'weapon of war' against Ukrainian civilians.

The UK's ambassador to Ukraine said she was aware of reports of women and girls being raped in front of their families, describing it as a "deliberate act of subjugation".

Kate and Richard were joined by Chip Chapman, Former Senior British Adviser to US central command, who gave his analysis on the situation.

After discussing the heartbreaking testimony uncovered by human rights groups, Richard had asked: "Chip, we've said something that was widely reported this morning that rape was used as a weapon of war. How exactly is rape a weapon of war?"

In response, Chip said: "Well, it's just trying to impose some sort of will upon the enemy as it's mentioned in the Second World War, it's absolutely horrific. And if you've got compromised morality [...] with those with weapons you've got a lethal combination for the future. It's absolutely disgraceful and people need to be taken to account."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6 am on ITV.
