GMB host Susanna Reid sends sweet message of support to Kate Garraway after Derek tribute

Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid sent a sweet message of support to pal Kate Garraway and her husband Derek Draper on the show earlier today.

The host was joined by Ed Balls and showbiz reporter Richard Arnold, who told how the couple were serenaded by Elton John at his gig last night at London's 02 Arena.

Kate is a massive Elton John fan and attended the event alongside her husband Derek, who is still recovering from contracting coronavirus in March 2020. Former Labour lobbyist Derek has become one of the worst affected survivors of Covid-19 and spent 13 months in the hospital after contracting the virus.

Elton spotted the married couple in the crowd and dedicated his hit song, Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, to them.

Richard said: "Our very own Kate Garraway and Derek were serenaded last night by none other than Sir Elton John himself. He spied them in the audience at The O2 and dedicated the track Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me to them, telling the rest of the arena how he thrilled he was, calling them an inspiring couple."

The Rocket Man singer told the audience: "They’re inspiring. They’ve never given up and I’m so thrilled they’re here, I can’t believe they are here.”

Susanna was completely blown away by Elton's comments, she said: "That is so emotional, what a superstar. As are you Kate and Derek."

Previously, Kate told Good Morning Britain viewers that Elton reached out to offer support after Derek became seriously unwell.

She said: "Elton John contacted me. It was so strange. I was like, ‘Elton… John?’ We do have a mutual friend, which I didn’t know about. And because of all the work he does with the Aids Foundation he was like, ‘What can I do to help? I know a bit about antiviral stuff. And I’m on board. I’ll try to help'. He’s incredible.”
