GMB host hits back after being accused of 'breaking the law'

A Good Morning Britain correspondent has been forced to clarify that he did nothing wrong after viewers accused him of "breaking the law" on Monday.

Nick Dixon was reporting live from Lancing in Sussex, where an official police investigation is underway. It comes after a video emerged on social media apparently showing a police officer refusing a request to respond to a crime that was taking place just metres away.

Nick "jumped into a taxi" to show viewers how quickly the police car could have arrived at the Co-op store, where the alleged assault was taking place. Due to the camera angle, some people watching at home thought Nick did not have a seatbelt on during the journey.

On Twitter Phil said: "I'm sure @NickDixonITV just drove to COOP without a seat belt on. That's a crime isn't it?" @vegasbaby2012 said: "Did Nick Dixon really just travel in a car without a seatbelt? He broke the law?"

@P15pm said: "Nick Dixon should've worn a seatbelt".

In a video response, Nick explained he was, in fact, wearing a seat belt, it just couldn't be seen on camera. He said: "For anyone wondering or tweeting me, I have had a seat belt on all morning. Not visible on air because of the angle we are showing but it’s been on, of course…"

In the video he added: "Just to reassure people who have been tweeting me this morning to say I haven't had a seat belt on... I have, all morning" before moving the camera to show the belt.
