GMB fans slam Susanna Reid's suggestion Boris Johnson will be 'missed' as PM amid exit

Good Morning Britain fans criticised the ITV show’s coverage of Boris Johnson’s final speech to the nation as Susanna Reid read a series of messages supporting the exiting Prime Minister.

Susanna, who returned this week to the ITV early morning show after her summer break, helmed the show alongside Ed Balls as the outgoing PM spoke to a pack outside Downing Street, describing himself as a "booster rocket that has fulfilled its function".

Mr Johnson is now heading for the backbenches, where he vowed to "get behind Liz Truss every step of the way".

After Boris had delivered his speech, journalist Andrew Pearce said in the ITV studio: “It’s going to be a dull place without him,” which Susanna said she “totally agreed with” before adding: “Perhaps it is what we need.”

Susanna then read out a series of messages from viewers bemoaning his exit, saying: “Viewers have been in touch and frankly it's the viewers that count.”

Susanna then read out a message from viewer Theodora, saying: “Good luck Boris. Sorry to see you go. You gave a great speech. Best Prime Minister we have had. You’ll be back.”

A reader from Maureen then said: “We’ll miss you Boris. Come back soon. You’re one of a kind.”

However, Good Morning Britain viewers were left labelling the positive comments on the PM’s exit as “nonsense”, with many saying there was a different consensus on Twitter.

One fan asked: “How about you read some of the tweets I’m seeing Susannah?!!” as another tweeted: “Oh here we go Susanna Reid reading out the we love you Boris messages whilst informing us it's the viewers that count! She is definitely doing a Nadine!”

“Doesn't sound like balanced viewer feedback. Take a look on here,” another wrote as a fellow fellow asked: “Why read all the positive comments? We all know there are more negatives.”

Another nauseous fan commented: “Sweet Christ Susanna Reid please stop reading these Tory emails! I'm gonna vomit!”

Another quoted: “"Dull without him" it's not the X factor he's been dreadful!” as a fellow viewer said: “Who's tweeting that nonsense.”

This came after Liz Truss was declared the winner of the Conservative leadership race on Monday, which saw her speech praise her “friend” Johnson as she accepted her victory.

She will step into the role as party leader and PM after she has been formally invited by the Queen to form a government.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
