Good Morning Britain's Dr Amir Khan has pointed out issues with the government's upcoming announcement regarding the 6million NHS backlog.
Last year, it was revealed that the treatment backlog has hit a record high, with almost 10,000 waiting more than two years.
Government will announce today a supposedly new measure to help with waiting times after the Treasury intervened to block publication of the full plan.
Patients will be able to compare hospital waiting times in locations around the country for non-urgent procedures in a bid to reduce waiting times.
Addressing the news today, Dr Amir suggested that the NHS app was nothing new and something already used by doctors.
"I think there will be lots of patients waiting to see when their surgery will going ahead," he said of the NHS plan. "We're waiting to see how the 6million NHS backlog will be cleared.
"They're saying this is new to be published but this has been going on for a while... we need thousands more doctors, thousands more nurses but, more importantly, we need to value our staff more."
Quizzed by host Susanna Reid whether this was simply a reannouncement, he replied: "Yeah, we have a service called choose and book [where doctors] ... can look at the first appointments.
"I think it's that patients will have access to this service which we have already."
Dr Amir also warned that this service wouldn't be helpful to many of his patients, who are restricted by location and use public transport to attend appointments.
It comes after it was revealed that the health service is under unprecedented pressure as a record 5,025 people had to wait more than 12 hours at A&Es in England in September last year.
A record 104,875 people waited at more than four hours from the decision to admit to actually being admitted on to wards.
A total of 9,754 people were waiting more than two years to start routine hospital treatment at the end of August 2021.
