GMB chaos as Susanna Reid faced with interviewee singing Monty Python ditty over co-star

They may have been on Good Morning Britain to debate economic turmoil but Andrew Pierce and Kevin Maguire created chaos on the ITV daytime show. The guests were invited on to the programme to discuss the financial backlash following the government’s 'mini-budget'.

Journalist Pierce and Maguire joined the show remotely from the Labour party conference. However, a clash between opinions soon erupted resulting in the Daily Mirror’s Kevin Maguire breaking out into a rendition of the Monty Python well known ditty 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life'.

Discussing the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) severe criticism of the UK government's fiscal plan, the debate began with the Mirror's associate editor reflecting on the IMF reaction to the tax cut plans, which have sent the GBP’s value spiralling.

He said: “The speculators and casino economy are saying, ‘You bet wrong here, you’ve got it absolutely wrong’. Your living standards are suffering and at the same time they’re giving a shedload of money to the richest in the country. It’s a moment in British politics." He added: “Truss and the Tories are down on the floor. They’ve got it absolutely wrong and most Tory MPs know that.”

Andrew Pierce replied: “The problem here though is that the polls show people still don’t know what Labour stands for." The debate then soon spiralled out of control as Maguire started singing the Eric Idle hit while sitting next to Pierce, with him initially replying: “Hang on, Kevin.”

Pierce pressed on with his criticism of the Labour leader, while Maguire continued to sing. Studio hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls looked on.

Maguire stopped singing to reply to Pierce: “Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck could come up with a better alternative to your government. You’ve created this mess.” The pair then quickly began to talk over one another, leaving the Good Morning Britain hosts in the studio struggling to regain control of the programme.

Susanna was heard repeatedly saying Maguire’s name as she tried to butt in, as Ed then said: “Order, order, order.”

The programme then abruptly cut the journalist’s connection as they continued bickering and the programme returned to the studio, with Susanna saying: “Thanks both very much.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
