General Motors, EVgo and Pilot Company are striving to expand the fast charging network in the US with a travel-friendly twist. The companies have installed chargers at over 130 locations in over 25 states, focusing on high-volume traffic routes using a gas station layout. That’s the latest milestone of the three companies’ collaboration that aims to install up to 2,000 DC fast-charging stalls at up to 500 Pilot and Flying J locations.
The team-up was announced in 2022. A year later, there were 17 locations already online. Now, that number has increased to more than a hundred, with many more to come in the following months.
All the fast chargers are dual-cord units provided by EVgo that can dispense up to 350 kilowatts of power if there is just one EV connected. If there are two EVs charging at the same time from the same stall, the power is shared between the two cars. Plug-and-Charge, which eliminates the need to manually pay for each charging session as long as everything is set up beforehand, is also supported.
The chargers can be found along major highways, including I-75 between Michigan and Georgia, and regional routes like Minneapolis to Milwaukee, Detroit to Cleveland, San Antonio to Houston, and Dallas to Nashville. The three companies say the charging stations offer premium amenities that may not exist at traditional locations, including lounges, free Wi-Fi, modernized restrooms, restaurants, and other food and beverage options.

With more than 130 locations now open, we’re helping ensure charging is seamless and convenient, so drivers can focus on the adventure ahead.”
The chargers are well-lit and accessible 24/7, with attendants present at all times. Many Pilot charging stations have overhead canopies and pull-through stalls which should come in handy for those who are towing trailers. Pilot has a website where you can see all the locations with DC fast chargers.
The chargers installed by GM, EVgo and Pilot are located along major traffic routes, which should come in handy on long road trips. At the same time, GM partnered with EVgo on another project to install 2,850 DC fast chargers in more urban areas. Late last year, the two companies had 2,000 stalls online.
