Even though it seems like almost every NFL team has a quarterback conversation going on this offseason, Titans general manager Ran Carthon set the record straight about quarterback Ryan Tannehill’s future at his Tuesday press conference.
Carthon said the Titans organization intends to check out some of the quarterback prospects at this year’s NFL scouting combine just as they would at any other position. Even if the franchise decides to pick up a quarterback in this year’s draft, the Titans still plan on keeping Tannehill on the team.
“I know everybody wants to make a big deal out of the quarterback position and whether he will or won’t be here,” Carthon said, via WSMV. “You guys just have to accept the fact that Ryan is under contract for us. Right now, he’s a Titan and he will be a Titan.”
Tannehill is entering the fourth and final year of his contract with the Titans. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport added that while Carthon and the Titans intend to keep Tannehill, it would be beneficial to figure out a long-term deal in order to give the veteran some job security.
As of now, the Titans have Tannehill and Malik Willis in the quarterback room for next season. Backup Joshua Dobbs is expected to be a free agent this offseason.
