Florida-based disaster relief organization Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) recently held hurricane planning meetings to coordinate relief aid for the islands impacted by Hurricane Beryl. The affected islands include Barbados, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, St. Lucia, Grenada, Jamaica, and others in the vicinity.
GEM, along with its partners, is gearing up to send supplies from their headquarters in Doral, Florida. Volunteers are being called upon to assist in packing containers with essential items to support all the hurricane-affected islands, with a specific focus on providing aid to Jamaica.
The organization has put out a call for donations of crucial community supplies such as tarps, generators, yard waste bags, canned and non-perishable foods, sleeping bags, work gloves, solar-powered lights, tents, industrial sponges, professional first-aid kits, and hygiene kits.
During a joint news conference, the Jamaican Consul General in Miami emphasized the ongoing need for support in the face of hurricane threats. He highlighted the significant damage that even minimal rainfall can cause and stressed the importance of being well-prepared for such situations.
The Consul General urged Jamaican residents to stay informed by following advisories from relevant authorities. He also advised those living in low-lying areas to relocate to safer regions of the island to ensure their safety in the event of a hurricane.
