Glider and buses withdrawn in West Belfast after attack

Translink services in West Belfast were terminated prematurely on Tuesday evening following an incident.

All G1, 10K & 10J Services were terminated at Glengoland Roundabout and West Belfast Glider Feeder services were withdrawn for a period of time.

Police received a report of criminal damage in the Stewartstown Road area of West Belfast shortly after 6.20pm today, a spokesperson told Belfast Live.

It was reported that a group of young people were throwing stones which hit three buses - two of the buses have damaged windows.

The PSNI spokesperson added: "Enquiries are ongoing into this incident and we would encourage anyone with any information or dashcam footage to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1591 15/02/22.

"A report can be made using the online reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport. Information can also be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org."

At the time, Sinn Féin councillor and former Lord Mayor of Belfast Daniel Baker said: "Community Alert - All Translink services have been temporarily suspended from the Micheal Ferguson Roundabout.

"I, along with other volunteer youth workers are out on the ground currently and will remain in the area as we work to liaise with Translink to get the services running again."

He issued an update a short time ago saying: "Services back on and we will continue to engage throughout the evening."

A spokesperson for Translink told Belfast Live: “Stones were thrown at vehicles in the Colin area this evening, breaking windows on two buses.

“For the safety of our staff and passengers, services were briefly withdrawn, but have now been restored.

“The safety of our customers, staff and the wider public is our top priority at all times. We have zero tolerance for attacks on our vehicles and we work closely with the PSNI, community and elected representatives to reduce and prevent acts of vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

“We operate a cash reward scheme offering up to £1,000 to any member of the public who witnesses any incident and is prepared to give evidence in court, resulting in a conviction.”
