Glentoran vs Glenavon: Tim McCann urges players to go goal hunting against Lurgan Blues

Tim McCann is hoping Glentoran bring out their scoring boots when Glenavon return to the Oval on Friday night.

The two sides played out a drab 0-0 draw just nine days ago, a result that threw a spanner in the Glens' title hopes.

Since then the East Belfast club has been dumped out of the Irish Cup by Crusaders, but they did return to form in a 5-1 win over Carrick Rangers in midweek.

Asked what improvements he wants to see in Friday's game compared to that previous goalless stalemate, McCann told Glens TV: "We need to score some goals. We scored five against Carrick, but hopefully we have kept a few in our locker.

"You just want to get the momentum back again. The boys are playing with smiles on their faces again.

"We are playing at the Oval where we want to play attacking football, and give the lads a freedom to go and play and hopefully they can get a few goals."

Glentoran boss Rodney McAree questioned the 'hunger and desire' of his players following their Irish Cup defeat to Crusaders.

Assistant manager McCann believes his players provided a welcome response with Tuesday's demolition of Carrick.

"We saw it in the first 20 minutes, the intensity of the players and willingness to win the ball back. The quality on the ball was there and they took on the instructions Rodney gave them," he said.

"We looked a well balanced team and I thought five was a fair result."
