Glentoran to address situation 'urgently' as fans vent their frustrations

The board of directors at Glentoran Football Club say they recognise performances have fallen below "what is acceptable to the club and our fans" and that it is their duty to "address this urgently".

In a statement released on Sunday evening the directors also condemned "incidents of violence, criminal damage and threats of harm" which they say occurred following the Glens 1-0 defeat to Larne at The Oval on Saturday.

While the club said they understood the frustration and concerns of fans, they said they would "act decisively" if they find individuals involved in violence, threats of harm or criminal damage once CCTV had been reviewed and statement had been taken from people present.

A large crowd of supporters gathered in the carpark at The Oval to protest after the Glens slipped to a fifth league defeat in a row for the first time in 88 years!

Manager Mick McDermott was the subject of their ire with many calling for him to be sacked.

With only one league win in their last 10 games the statement released by the directors on Sunday evening would suggest the team's recent performances would be addressed as a matter of urgency.

"The Directors of Glentoran recognise that our performances on the pitch have fallen below what is acceptable to the club and our fans. Our duty is to address this urgently," the statement read.

"We understand the frustration and concerns.

"This does not however give anyone the right to break the law or make our ground an unsafe place for fans and officials.

"Incidents of violence, criminal damage and threats of harm occurred after yesterday's match that are totally unacceptable.

"Over the next few days, we will be reviewing CCTV footage and taking statements from people who were present.

"Where we find individuals involved in violence, threats of harm or criminal damage we will act decisively in the interest of our club, our fans, our volunteers and our employees."
