Glentoran boss Rodney McAree offers update on Paddy McClean and Conor McMenamin injuries

Glentoran boss Rodney McAree has offered positive updates on the injuries to Paddy McClean and Conor McMenamin.

Defender McClean has been nursing a heel injury while long-term absentee McMenamin is closing in on a return from a broken metatarsal.

McAree hopes to have one of the players available for Saturday's Irish Cup last-16 clash with Portadown.

He told Glens TV: "Paddy only has a little problem with his heel, it's nothing serious. He will hopefully be available for the weekend.

"We are getting someone to look at it on Tuesday and hopefully it will heal it."

Northern Ireland international McMenamin has been missing since November but is nearing a return to first-team action.

McAree added: "Conor Mac is also getting closer which is great. Conor was actually out on the pitch doing the warm-up with the lads before Monday's game which is great to see.

"And it is great to see him getting that wee but closer and obviously it will be a huge addition when he comes back."

Asked if he might refresh his squad for Saturday's trip to Shamrock Park, McAree said: "Saturday is a game we are looking at winning. The Irish Cup is a massive competition and I personally want to do well for Glentoran. And I want my players to do that as well.

"So we will field a team first and foremost to go and win the game.

"We have a lot of talent and options with guys coming back into the squad. Our bench was strong on Monday night and we should have others available too."
