Glenkens Community and Arts Trust taking part in social enterprise showcase

A special event will shine a light on one of the Stewartry’s leading social enterprises at the end of the month.

Glenkens Community and Arts Trust (GCAT) and its CatStrand home in New Galloway is taking part in one of a series of social enterprise showcases, which have been organised by Third Sector Dumfries and Galloway with support from South of Scotland Enterprise.

It is believed there are nearly 250 social enterprises in Dumfries and Galloway, ranging from arts and creative industries to community development and regeneration.

The CatStand showcase will be on January 31 and will also feature a Social Enterprise Dumfries and Galloway Network meeting.

The event is open to other social enterprise organisations, people looking to establish one or anyone interested in the model who wants to find out more about them.

Matt Baker, chief executive at The Stove Network in Dumfries and chairman of the region’s social enterprise network, said: “We really look forward to welcoming social enterprise and social entrepreneurs from across the region to these
events.

“Having launched a new network for these groups last year we are now looking at how we can build on this to support and connect organisations throughout Dumfries and Galloway.

“The events also mark a starting point in work we plan to undertake to promote social enterprise and increase awareness and understanding of the work they undertake.”
