Glenearn Badminton Club hosted the inaugural John Grant Memorial Cup tournament on Monday.
John Grant, the previous club president and a real stalwart, sadly passed away in 2020.
Members were extremely keen to appropriately mark his significant contribution by establishing an annual club tournament and cup which bears his name.
Club members assembled, doubles pairs names were pulled from a hat and more than 50 games were played before Ally King and Jamie Lee lifted the cup after a closely fought final match.
Club treasurer and tournament organiser Ross Paterson said: “Our newly-introduced tournament cup provides our members a fantastic opportunity to recognise the significant role John played as our club president.
“John was extremely well thought of and greatly assisted with the work of the club. The addition of this cup will allow John’s legacy to continue for many years to come.”
John’s wife Mo and son Gary attended and presented medals and the cup to those placed first to third.
Following the hugely successful tournament, the club is already planning for next year’s event.
