Glenavon announce signing of Canadian goalkeeper Massimo Schiavoni

Glenavon have announced the signing of Canadian goalkeeper Massimo Schiavoni.

Schiavoni has joined the Mourneview Park club from Intermediate outfit St James’ Swifts where he had a short spell.

The 19-year old shot-stopper has previously played for Notre-Dame-de-Grâce FC back in his native Montreal before moving to Northern Ireland where he has played for clubs including Dunmurry Rec and St. James’.

The Lurgan Blues have brought the teenager in after Declan Brown returned to Queen's University, with Schiavoni to give competition to James Taylor.

Gary Hamilton told the club's website: “Massimo came to a few of our training sessions and our goalkeeper coaches Jonny and Reggie had spoken quite highly of him.

"Obviously with Decky on his way back to Queens, we needed someone in to fill in his place and give Jamesy (Taylor) a bit of competition and a bit of drive for the position so it will be good to have him here.”
