Glen vs Kilcoo given the green light after the Athletic Grounds passes pitch inspection

Sunday’s Ulster Club Senior Football Championship Final between Glen and Kilcoo has been given the go ahead following an early morning pitch inspection at the Athletic Grounds.

Freezing temperatures forced a host of sporting postponements across Ireland yesterday, including the Ulster Club IFC final between Galbally (Tyrone) and Corduff (Monaghan).

That game was due to be played in Newry, but the pitch at Páirc Esler was deemed unplayable following an inspection and the fixture will be rescheduled for next weekend.

Officials carried out an inspection at the Athletic Grounds this morning as temperatures struggled to get above freezing in Armagh City yesterday.

However, thankfully, today’s forecast isn’t as harsh as it has been in recent days, although there could be one or two wintry showers during the game.

Kilcoo, current Ulster and All-Ireland champions, are bidding for their third successive provincial title while Glen are hoping to lift the Seamus McFerran Cup for the first time in their history.

The Watty Graham’s have enjoyed great success at the St Paul’s Minor and Creggan U21 tournaments over the last decade and they’ll be hoping they can translate that underage success into senior glory this afternoon.

Today’s game gets under way at 1pm and Belfast Live Sport will be live blogging all the action from the Athletic Grounds.
