A former teammate of Glen Kamara admits his inevitable departure from Rangers is puzzling.
Greg Stewart finds it confusing as to why the Finland international will be allowed to leave Ibrox this summer.
The 27-year-old is currently training in isolation after Michael Beale confirmed he was recovering from illness.
But regardless, it's been made clear for many months that the former Dundee player will be moved on to pastures new.
Stewart insists Kamara was "going places", such as the Premier League, when he played alongside him in a Light Blues shirt.
And he's backed him to get back to his best wherever he ends up in the next part of his career.
He told the Daily Record: “Football can be a funny game at times because with Glen, it’s only a couple of years since you really thought he was going places.
"Obviously new managers come in and have different views on players and where they fit.
“I’m not sure if Glen had a couple of injuries last year too which didn’t help. It’s never nice to hear that players are training on their own.
"It sounds like he’s had a chat with the manager and decided the best decision is for Glen to go and now it’s about finding a club willing to pay what Rangers want.
“It’s a strange one for me though as I know Glen and what he can do on the pitch. During my time at the club, he was central to everything we did. I thought he could easily have moved to the Premier League or a big European league at that time. I thought clubs would be queuing up for him. That’s the quality he had.
“He’s shown how good he is on the international stage with Finland, bossing games at the Euros. I still think he can do that now. These things happen, you go through wee blips in football. Maybe he just needs a change of scenery to get back to his best because there is a top player in there. That’s undeniable.
“Unfortunately for Rangers, they’re going to get nowhere near the level of cash they would have two years ago, which will be a frustration business-wise.”
