The Glazers and Manchester United are charging Middlesbrough fans £45 for an adult away ticket in the FA Cup.
Premier League away tickets are capped at £30 and so the pricing for fourth-round FA Cup fixture has been controversial.
United welcome Middlesbrough to Manchester on Friday, February 4 as they look to progress again to the next round of the competition after their win against Aston Villa and it's expected a strong away travelling contingent will attend the game.
Middlesbrough have taken the maximum allocation of 9,443 tickets for the match and one adult ticket is priced at £45.
The £30 away ticket cap in the Premier League was introduced in the 2016/17 season following work from the Premier League Away Supporters' Initiative, however, United have deliberately exceeded that cap for the visit of Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.
Fans from Middlesbrough, United and other clubs took to social media to speak out against the decision.
United fans have regularly opposed the Glazers' ownership of the club and May 2021 saw unprecedented protests.
However, United season ticket prices have been frozen at Old Trafford for almost a decade, which was something that newly appointed chief executive Richard Arnold was keen to celebrate in March last year.
"Season ticket prices have been frozen for the 2021-22 season, as part of our ongoing commitment to fair pricing that has been a fundamental part of our ticketing policy for some time," Arnold's statement read.
"This marks the 10th successive season that the club has kept prices frozen in general admission areas of the stadium."
