Last night (January 31) people in Glasgow and the surrounding area were suddenly awoken by what many have described as a "loudest" bang.
The thunder and lightning happened around 11pm on Monday just when many were settling down for the night. But it wasn't long before they were wide awake.
Taking to social media, residents said that they saw the "brightest" lightning that they had ever seen followed by some pretty scary sounding thunder that startled many kids, adult and pets.

As a result of the weather events, many people also experienced an outage with a power cut lasting around half an hour across several streets. The fire service were sent out to some areas, with many locals writing on social media they believe they were checking on nearby pylons to ensure nothing was damaged.
Capturing the moment the lightning hit on their outdoor camera, one East Kilbride local shared it on a Facebook group captioning it: "Loudest thunder ever. Looks like something was hit."
Many people began to reply to the post saying it was "wild" whilst many others thanked SP Networks for managing to fix the issue and restore power so quickly.
One said: "That blast of thunder and lightning was pretty d*** scary."
Another questioned: "Anyone else in Glasgow just witnessed the brightest flash and the loudest thunder known to man, and then had a power cut?"
In response to the question one replied: "Yes, about 15 mins ago. Curtains closed and still saw the flash. Thunder was loud AF! Only one flash and crack though. And fortunately, no power cut."
"Saw something south of Shawlands - very bright" wrote another.
