Glastonbury Festival is set to host the UK’s first squat-and-go women’s urinal when it opens this week. This revolutionary toilet is expected to solve the age-old problem of women having to wait in queues.
Bristol-based entrepreneurs Amber Probyn and Hazel McShane have designed what they describe as "the UK’s first touch-free women’s urinal", in their quest for 'pee equality' called PEEQUAL. The urinals will be available to over 100,000 women at Glastonbury and will be positioned near the Pyramid Stage and in the Stone Circle.
McShane said: "Women shouldn’t have to wait in longer queues for something as simple as going for a pee" adding: "PEEQUAL is about making the women’s festival toilet experience quicker, safer, and more sustainable; recognising that women’s time is just as valuable as men’s."

The founders have joined forces with long-standing Glastonbury charity partner, WaterAid with plans to showcase their creation at other festivals across the country for the summer season. PEEQUAL significantly reduces women’s time spent queuing so they can get back to doing what they actually paid for - enjoying the festival," McShane added.
While others are twisting and shouting with Paul McCartney, WaterAid volunteers will be keeping the urinals clean while raising awareness of the millions of people globally who are denied access to clean water and decent toilets.
Anna Hedges, special events project manager at WaterAid, said: “We’re really excited to be working with PEEQUAL as it officially launches this summer, with our fabulous volunteers on hand to help offer female Glastonbury-goers a great toilet experience.
“Whether it’s walking to find a toilet, queuing for a drink, or not being as clean as they’d like, festivals help people start to imagine what it might be like for the millions of people around the world who don’t have access to clean water or toilets. "
With interest from festival organisers around the world including Australia, South Korea and the US, PEEQUAL will soon be a familiar sight at festivals across the globe.
