Glastonbury fans 'sobbing' after Sir Elton John's four word message

Elton John's closing performance for Glastonbury 2023 has been described as "legendary" by fans.

Fans took to Twitter to share their love for the singer, after he put on a hefty two hour set in the golden Glastonbury sunset. The singer gathered a humongous crowd of loyal fans head to toe in Elton John attire for his final performance.

During his set, Elton John performed classics such as Bennie and the Jets, Rocket Man (I Think It's Going to Be a Long, Long Time) and I'm Still Standing to name a few. During his vibrant set, Elton John claimed this could be his "last ever show in England and Great Britain."

He said: "I never thought I'd headline Glastonbury. This may be my last show ever in England and Great Britain so I better play well and I better entertain you."

"I really appreciate all the outfits and everything, this is amazing."

His first special guest was Jacob Lusk of Gabriels, plus the London Community Gospel Choir to sing hit 'Are You Ready for Love'. The spine-tingling performance pleased the crowd who sang along word for word.

The remaining three special guests were Stephen Sanchez, Brandon Flowers and Rina Sayawama. Despite some fans being disappointed that hit pop singer Dua Lipa wasn't in attendance, many praised the pop legend on social media for his 'iconic' show.

Elton closed the show with a four word message, saying "I'll never forget you".

He said: "I want to thank you all for dressing up in your costumes, your glasses and your outfits, it makes me feel so happy and so loved. I also want to thank you for 52 years of amazing love and loyalty that you've shown me. It's been an incredible journey.

"I've had the best time, I will never forget you, you're in my head and my heart and my soul, you've been amazing. You've been an incredible crowd tonight. I wish you love and health and happiness."

Fans took to Twitter to share their love for his performance. Many praised Elton for his "passion" and "energy".

One tweet read: ""I’m not even properly watching #Glastonbury but knowing this will most likely be Elton John’s last time performing and hearing him sing is actually making me want to cry?? The #Elton John effect people"

A second fan said: "Elton John may be nearing the end of his Yellow Brick Road retirement tour but he's up on that Glastonbury stage with the same passion, energy and love for music he had when he first started his career. He's in his own league, both him and Bernie"

A third tweet read: "#EltonJohn knocking it out the park. #glastonburyfestival"

A fourth tweet read: "Can't find the words to describe how good that was. Elton John - thank you. #Glastonbury"
