Glastonbury couple engaged during Elton set say proposal was meant to happen earlier

The couple who got engaged during Elton John's epic Glastonbury set say the proposal should have happened during another performance.

As the 76-year-old dazzled the Pyramid Stage in his headliner finale, incredibly the cameras caught a very special moment and it was seen move over seven million watching at home.

Stanley had popped the question to girlfriend Leva - but he actually planned to do it a day before.

He admitted he was going to ask her to be his wife during Lizzo’s performance of ‘Juice’ but realised after speaking to his mum “it wasn’t the most appropriate song to propose to”.

Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston spoke to Stanley on their Heart FM show and he said the incredible proposal almost wasn't shared with the world.

He said if it wasn't for the intervention then chances are they wouldn't have gone viral.

Jamie told their listeners: "Now, whilst Elton John's show at Glastonbury on Sunday will go down in history as one of the best headline acts ever, fFor one couple it's a gig they will never forget.

"Stanley and Leva, were the couple that proposed during Elton's show."

Amanda asked: "How are you feeling?"

Stanley told the presenter: We're feeling amazing - chuffed to bits."

Realising we don't know if she excepted, Amanda asked: "So she said yes, obviously?"

He quickly told her "She did. Yes!" before Amanda asked: "Was that always your plan? Were you carrying a ring round with you for like, the whole weekend?

But Stanley said: "I was going go for Juice by Lizzo. But then I changed my mind. Because, you know, my mum told me it's probably not the most appropriate song to propose to!"

Agreeing, Amanda said: "Oh, my gosh, It must be quite nerve wracking having a ring in your pocket?

Jamie pointed out: "They say don't take anything valuable!"

The groom-to-be went on: "I also had a couple of like pieces of paper with my details on it for people around me. So I handed it out when Leva wasn't paying attention, like handing out sweets or something. It just had my name, my contact details.

"So the people around me could record it, and send it over to us. Then the massive camera came, picked us out. So they obviously caught on to what was going on."

The hosts went on to wish them well for their wedding.
