Glastonbury band pull out of festival show at last minute

South African band The Joy have had to pull out of their slot of Glastonbury’s Other Stage, the festival has announced just before they were due to go on. The group were due to play the second stage at 11am on Sunday but they will now be replaced by Mother Sky.

On Sunday morning, a post shared by Glastonbury’s official Twitter account said: “Unfortunately, The Joy have been forced to cancel their 11am performance at the Other Stage.“They will be replaced by Mother Sky.”

Meanwhile Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis has teased details of Sir Elton John’s Pyramid stage show on Sunday night at the music festival, saying the singer has been “carving out a set that’s going to be completely unique to Glastonbury”.

Sir Elton will close out the festival on the Pyramid stage, following performances from Lil Nas X, Blondie and Yusuf/Cat Stevens during the day. Speaking to the Glastonbury Free Press, the festival’s on-site newspaper, she said: “What a send-off that’s going to be. I cannot wait to welcome him in and show him what Glastonbury is all about.” In an interview done on Saturday, she told the newspaper, which published two editions during the festival, one on Thursday and one on Sunday, that Sir Elton had been “very involved”.

She said: “We have so many artists playing here and often we don’t have much direct contact. But Elton has been very involved and we’ve worked really closely. He’s so excited and engaged with what Glastonbury is.” She added: “He’s been carving out a set that’s going to be completely unique to Glastonbury. I love his love for doing that. I don’t want to give anything away, but it’s going to be amazing.”
