Nile Rodgers has revealed he will perform at Glastonbury 2025 immediately following Sir Rod Stewart.
The Chic star and mastermind behind some of the most legendary pop albums shared the news with press at the Rolling Stone UK Awards at London’s Camden Roundhouse, where he was honoured with the Global Icon award.
“We’re going to have a blast because we follow him directly,” the Freak Out hitmaker, 72, enthused.
However, he's already bracing himself for Stewart’s mischievous backstage antics and unconventional pranks.
“Rod and I have been friends for 80 gazillion years, so that means he’s gonna play tricks on me,” he said.
He added: “He’s probably gonna pinch my bum, because he always does that. I don’t know what the hell he gets out of that.”
‘We’re gonna have a great time together,” he continued. “I don’t know who’s in his current band, but we’ll probably be jamming.
“Regardless of what the world may think, Rod Stewart and I, we really love each other. We really are quite close.”
The American musician chuckled when reminded that his Glastonbury appearance hadn't officially been announced yet.
He laughed: “Am I not supposed to give that away? I always say too much.”
Rogers’ slip comes days after Stewart, who is the first act announced for next year’s festival, said he is “more than able to take the stage again to pleasure and titillate”.
The 79-year-old will perform in the Sunday afternoon “legends” slot at Worthy Farm after his appearance was announced by co-organiser Emily Eavis in a post on Instagram on Tuesday.
Taking to Instagram, the Maggie May singer penned: “I’m absolutely thrilled to announce that I’ll be playing @glastofest 2025!
“After all these years, I’m proud and ready and more than able to take the stage again to pleasure and titillate my friends at Glastonbury in June. I’ll see you there!.”
Sir Rod headlined Glastonbury in 2002, performing on Sunday night to close out the festival.
Festival organiser Emily Eavis said on Instagram: “Bringing Sir Rod Stewart back for the Sunday afternoon slot on the Pyramid stage is everything we could wish for.”
He is known for hits including Maggie May, You Wear It Well and Sailing, accumulating 25 UK top 10 singles and 38 UK top 10 albums as a solo artist.
Sir Rod previously headlined the festival in 2002 alongside Coldplay and Stereophonics.
The singer first rose to fame as frontman of 1970s rockers the Faces, who formed after the break-up of the Small Faces, with Sir Rod and now-Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood joining up with the band’s Ian McLagan, Ronnie Lane, and Kenney Jones.
