Glasgow welcomes new Thai restaurant as The Thai opens in Shawlands

Glasgow has welcomed a new Thai restaurant with the arrival of The Thai in Shawlands.

It's a first and much-welcomed Thai restaurant for the south side, which already boasts excellent Asian eating options including Vietnamese Little Hoi An in Govanhill, Julie Lin's Malaysian Julie's Kopitam and Chinese street food spot The Real Wan in Cathcart.

With chefs who have 'worked all over the world in the finest Asian restaurants', The Thai will serve traditional Thai cuisine from the former home of Japanese eatery Koku Shi at 317 Kilmarnock Road.

The exciting new food spot is already open for takeaway, with customers invited to its sit-in offering from next month. Introducing a 'semi-fine dining' setup, the menu will feature lobster, Aberdeen Angus steaks, lamb racks, fish fillets and tuna steaks served on a hot stone grill.

Speaking to Glasgow Live, owner Robert told us he decided to launch the new venture after spotting a gap in the market for Thai restaurants in the south side of the city.

He said: "I have decided to open a Thai restaurant because there wasn't any over there [in the south side] and I had the chance to meet outstanding chefs with more than 20 years experience in this subject.

"Our menu contains traditional Thai dishes created in modern way.

"The whole idea was to create environmental friendly place aiming to zero net emissions with really healthy cuisine. Now we are using green energy sources, bio degradable and recyclable packaging. We will be probably first place in Glasgow like this.

"The restaurant has a mezzanine inside where we will have a bar and lounge. Customers can wait for their tables while enjoying fresh cocktails and drinks."

Customers can currently order some delicious-looking Thai food over Uber Eats, with a buy one get one free deal running to celebrate the opening.

Otherwise, diners can order directly over the phone or by walk-in. An online ordering system which will be ready soon.
