Glasgow weather latest as yellow warning issued for 'blizzard conditions' and lightning

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and lightning across the city as Storm Gladys prepares to move across the city.

Many Glaswegians will have woken up this morning to a blanket of snow, and that snow is set to continue throughout the day.

Temperatures are almost at freezing this morning at 1 degree, reaching to a high of only three degrees, but feeling like minus three for the majority of the day.

The Met Office expect: "Snow showers continuing, again some heavy with hail and thunder, bringing further accumulations especially through the morning rush-hour. Very tricky driving conditions. The showers turning more sleety at lower levels and near the west coast this afternoon. Cold and windy. Maximum temperature 4 °C.

"Further wintry showers this evening, some heavy snow showers at first with further accumulations, especially higher ground, then becoming more isolated tonight. Clear spells and some icy stretches. Minimum temperature -1C".

The yellow weather warning will continue until 8PM tonight.

Police last night urged that drivers must drive "with caution" and many major routes have warnings of surface water and snow from Traffic Scotland.

Calmac, Coll & Tiree, Skye and Small Isles CalMac ferries are all cancelled for today.

Speed restrictions are on the trains this morning, so plan longer journeys.
