Glasgow weather: City to be battered by rain and wind as Storm Claudio arrives in Scotland

Glasgow is set to be battered by wind and rain as a yellow weather warning has been issued to Strathclyde.

This comes as Storm Claudio is making its way to Scotland, bringing with it lashes of rain and gale force winds. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Strathclyde, as heavy rain could cause travel disruption.

The warning has been put in place between 10:00am until 6pm on Wednesday November 2, covering the areas; East Ayrshire, South Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire. The Met Office add that around 30 to 40mm of rain is likely to fall in some areas before it clears.

Meanwhile, Glasgow is expected to be hit with winds reaching up to 41mph by 12pm on Wednesday with downpours starting from 9am. The gusts will slowly ease through the day but dropping to only 30mph, the night is set to be a blustery one.

The weather forecasters add: "Dry start, then a band of heavy rain will cross all parts during the morning. Brighter skies and scattered showers will follow in the afternoon. Strong southerly winds easing later. Maximum temperature 11C."

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Neil Armstrong said: “The biggest impacts from Storm Claudio are expected in northern France, which is why is has been named as a system by Météo-France. What it means for us in the UK is for some high winds to be possible along much of the southern coast of England."

Deputy Chief Meteorologist Steven Keates added: “Within the warning area, gusts are expected of between 55 and 65mph. This is associated with low pressure moving towards the northwest of the UK, which is bringing with it some heavy rain on Wednesday, especially across parts of southwest Scotland, Cumbria and western Wales, although much of the UK will see some rain through the day.

“In addition to high winds in the warning area, many parts of the UK will experience strong and gusty winds, at least for a time, during Wednesday."
