Glasgow Warriors joy for East Kilbride Rugby Club graduate Euan Ferrie as he signs pro deal

East Kilbride ace Euan Ferrie has landed his first professional contract after signing a deal with United Rugby Championship side Glasgow Warriors.

The 21-year-old, who hails from The Murray, is a product of the East Kilbride Rugby Club academy and follows in the footsteps of his fellow former Calderglen High School pupil Jonny Gray in going pro with the Scotstoun side. He also joins up with Jonny’s brother Richie at Warriors.

Ferrie, who has also played for Hamilton Bulls, has made six appearances for the Warriors this season, having made his debut in October’s 37-0 home win over Benetton.

And it is a dream come true to make the step up from the Warriors’ academy.

“Honestly, signing my first professional deal has just given me such a buzz,” Ferrie told glasgowwarriors.org following the announcement.

“I remember coming to Glasgow matches when I was a kid, so to be standing here as a professional means so much to me. It’s been some path to get here and I’m so grateful for the opportunity.

“It feels really good to know that the coaches trust me to go out there and represent this club, and it means so much to pull on the shirt whenever I get the chance.

“The senior pros here have really helped me a lot this season, too. Just being able to be around them day in, day out and focus on areas of my game I need to improve upon really sharpens my game and helps me get better.

“I just want to play as many matches as I can for this club, and get as many minutes under my belt as possible. I want to help this club win, and hopefully get us challenging for silverware.”

Head Coach Franco Smith added: “Euan is a talent that has impressed us across this season so far and has earned his first professional contract.

“He’s a young player who is eager and willing to learn in all aspects of his game, and has bought into what we are trying to build here at Scotstoun.

“We look forward to continuing to help him develop and grow as a player and as a person over the rest of this season and beyond.”
