Glasgow University rector 'blacklisted from BBC' after Gaza comments

THE rector of Glasgow University has claimed he has been "deplatformed" from appearing on the BBC.

Dr Ghassan Abu-Sittah is a British-Palestinian medic and a world-leading expert on war-injured patients and children. He was elected as Glasgow University's rector in April last year.

He worked as a doctor in hospitals in Gaza in the immediate wake of the October 7 attacks on Israel and has previously given his first hand account of the atrocities he has witnessed while working in hospitals in Gaza.

In a social media post on Tuesday, Abu-Sittah said: "I was told by BBC journalists that I am on a list of de-platformed speakers who will not be interviewed.

"I have kept a tally of the number of times it's journalists asked for interviews then cancelled an hour before because of 'emergency'.

"Today was number 7."

Abu-Sittah was responding to a tweet from journalist and National contributor Owen Jones, who posted an interview with Karishma Patel, a former BBC journalist who left the corporation in October because of it's Gaza coverage.

We told how the rector spoke out following news that more than 400 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes early on Tuesday morning.

Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the attacks early on Tuesday which killed 404 people, including women and children, and injured more than 600, the Gaza Health Ministry said.

Abu-Sittah said: "The White House voicing support for Israel’s actions means America is also complicit with the genocide in Gaza.

“The moronic idea that Trump is a war hating fascist was laid to rest with the dead children of Gaza.

“This is America's genocide.”

The BBC has been contacted for comment.
