Glasgow Uni student who attacked bouncers outside nightclub ordered to pay them £400

A university student who attacked two bouncers has been ordered to pay them £400.

Archibald Watters, 19, turned on Declan Cunningham and Gerard O’Donnell at The Hive nightclub in Glasgow’s west end on February 4, 2022.

The third year University of Glasgow engineering student was told he was not allowed entry due to rules about time of entry.

Mr Cunningham was pushed through a door before he tried to retaliate.

Prosecutor Leo McGinn said: “Watters grabbed both hands and forced himself in the premises.

“The door staff were able to force him back outside.”

Watters, from Edinburgh, was held in another room while a 999 call was made.

Mr McGinn added: “Once within, Watters lashed out again and struck Mr O’Donnell to the face with a closed fisted punch.

“He then struck Mr Cunningham to the chest and face twice.”

Watters was then held on the ground before he was arrested.

While in the police van he called officers “F***ing c***s.”

Watters pled guilty to assaulting the door staff and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.

His lawyer told the court: “Mr Watters regrets his actions and has shown remorse by pleading guilty.

“He is a third year civil engineering student and he appreciates this offence may have an impact on his future.

“He works with a construction company in the summer and has worked part time at a restaurant.”

Sheriff Diana McConnell told Watters that it would have been “distressing” for the door stuff who were “just doing their jobs.”

Watters was ordered to pay each door steward £200 in compensation.
