Drivers have been urged to remain careful on the roads as workers attemp to get the traffic lights up and running.
One concerned motorist tweeted: "So on my 16 minute drive to work…there were FOUR different sets of traffic lights completely out… this year I don’t think I’ve been on a journey once in Glasgow where there’s been every set of traffic lights fully functioning."
A Glasgow City Council spokesman said: “Following a power surge in the early hours of this morning, we became aware that many traffic lights were out across the city.
“The power surge affected around 28% of the controllers that manage traffic lights at junctions.
“Our engineers have been resetting the controllers since 6am this morning and we are hopeful normal service will be restored by early afternoon.
“We are sorry for any inconvenience that’s been caused.”
