Glasgow Tory councillor calls lack of Queen's Jubilee events in Glasgow 'shameful'

A Glasgow councillor has labelled the lack of Jubilee events in Glasgow as 'shameful'.

Thomas Kerr, the Leader of the Glasgow Conservative Group, took to Twitter to express his frustration at the absence of any major plans by Glasgow City Council to mark 70 years of The Queen on the throne.

Mr Kerr, who represents Shettleston ward, tweeted: "For 70 years, Her Majesty has been a towering figure of hope for our country.

"The fact Glasgow City Council has NO events for her platinum jubilee is shameful. However, like many Glaswegians, I'll be celebrating this historic milestone."

Cities across the UK are hosting events and activities - from pop concerts to street parties - across the Platinum Jubilee Central Weekend of June 2 - 5, with London being the main focus of the celebrations.

According to the Local Government Association, more than 16,000 street parties are expected to be thrown over the bank holiday weekend in towns and cities across England.

Among them is the London Borough of Waltham Forest, which has approved over 100 events and is putting on a mile-long street party.
