Glasgow Tigers chiefs have vowed to come roaring out the gate in this evening’s Championship opener against Newcastle Diamonds and set themselves up for a tilt at the speedway title.
The Ashfield side were agonisingly beaten by Poole Pirates in the 2021 play-off final back in November meaning for the second campaign running they finished runners-up.
But the hurt is driving skipper Ulrich Ostergaard and his team to go one better in 2022.
Five of last year's side are back, led by veteran Dane Ostergaard, the redoubtable Craig Cook and Great Britian international Tom Brennan.
Newcomers are Danyon Hume and Ben Basso, are both winter captures from Poole Pirates.
And Glasgow Tigers co-promoter Alan Dick said: "The scene is set for a fantastic campaign. The sole aim is to go one better than last year and take the title. I think we can do it".
Across the M8 and Edinburgh Monarchs get their campaign under way at Armadale against Berwick Bandits.
Monarchs will hand debuts to youngsters Lasse Fredriksen and Jacob Hook while the Bandits are led by new signing, the vastly experienced three-times British champion Chris Harris.
Monarchs' captain Sam Masters said: "It'll be tough for the new boys, but we are giving them all the help we can.
“Berwick have some boys that can get round Armadale, but every meeting will be hard - it’s a tough league.
"It's my job to keep the boys together and make it as fun as we can, but it is even more fun when you are winning races, so if we are winning my job is easy.
“I’ve said it before but I really believe we are due to win some trophies so we are going for that for sure."
The Bandits’ campaign is already underway after the Shielfield side beat Birmingham 58-32 in their opener a fortnight ago.
