Glasgow Taxi trip to Troon sees hundreds of kids enjoy day at the beach

Hundreds of kids with additional support needs enjoyed a day out at Troon beach as part of the Glasgow Taxi Fund Outing.

Around 120 taxis took part in the procession which started at Kelvin Way before heading into the city centre, passing George Square before heading south and on to Ayrshire.

The event marked the 75-year anniversary of the annual trip to Troon and fell on a very rare day of sunshine.

Drivers gave up their free time and fares to transport the school kids to the beach and made the day even more special for their passengers by dressing up themselves and their cars.

After hitting the beach on Wednesday afternoon, the kids enjoyed entertainment including face painting and sandcastles and lots of food and drink.

The convoy of taxis was organised by those in the trade and other supporters of the initiative including the Celtic FC Foundation and Laurie Ross Insurance.

The day out is free of charge for the families involved and began in the wake of the Second World War in 1947 and has continued ever since.

If you never managed to catch a glimpse of the procession, take a look at our gallery of just some of the highlights.
