When you look at the subway systems of cities such as London, Barcelona and Tokyo and compare it with our own wee much-loved 15 stop underground network, it’s obvious that in Glasgow we like to keep things simple.
Be that as it may, it hasn’t stopped the Philippine Government for ‘nicking’ it to promote how their own Metro Manila subway system in the Southeast Asian country will look when it is scheduled to open in 2025.
The ‘theft’ was uncovered by global news agency Agence France-Presse’s fact-checking editorial team, who have denounced the government for sharing photos which claim to show a subway project in the Philippines.
But in reality, the images show one interior subway photo of our beloved Glasgow Subway, accompanied by five various exterior subway construction photos of projects in New York, Peru and Los Angeles.
The original details of the expansion were revealed by organisation Kapa Community Ministry International and have been shared tens of thousands of times on multiple posts on Facebook.
The Glasgow Subway photo shows a doctored image of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte standing between two trains at Kelvinhall station, an image originally published back in April of 2017 to announce the proposed Glasgow Subway modernisation programme.
To the left of President Rodrigo Duterte is a current subway train and to the right is an image of the new driverless train - which arrived for testing in Glasgow last month.
Accompanying the photos is the caption: "This is my first time to see this kind of project in the Philippines. This is also my first time to see such kind of equipment.
“This is also my first time to encounter such a president. It's just three years but his accomplishments already equate to those that can be done in 10 years."
Let us know if you spot the President on his way to Partick or in the city centre on your 'shoogle' travels!
