Glasgow St Enoch Centre evacuated amid reports of suspicious item

The St Enoch Centre in Glasgow has been evacuated amid reports of a suspicious item.

Police were called to reports of a suspicious item outside the shopping centre at 4:10pm this afternoon near to Dunlop Street.

Officers are currently at the scene and the area is cordoned off.

Police say the centre has been evacuated "as a precaution" and that enquiries are ongoing.

Police have since confirmed that the incident has been stood down, with the item 'posing no threat'.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 4.10pm on Friday, 6 May, police were called to a report of a suspicious item outside the St Enoch Centre, near Dunlop Street, Glasgow. Officers attended and the area was cordoned off. The centre was evacuated as a precaution.

"The item has been removed and it posed no threat. The cordon has been lifted and officers have left the scene."
