Social housing could be built inside private estates as the council bids to boost the numbers of affordable homes around Glasgow.
The council’s new draft local housing strategy says the local authority is considering “a requirement for private sector developers to deliver affordable housing within developments.”
Other councils in Scotland already see builders required to erect a number of homes available for social rent as part of approval for private housing developments.

Councillor Anthony Carroll, Scottish Greens, asked for information on the proposed policy at last week’s economy, housing, transport and regeneration city policy committee.
The Dennistoun politician said: “Is there going to be a target for the private developments to have a requirement for affordable housing?”
He also queried whether there would be requirements for proper amenities, including public and active transport, to be delivered.
Replying to his query, a council official said: “In the housing strategy we assess the need for affordable housing. We will identify the need for an affordable housing policy within there whether that is city wide or in specific geographies.
“We have started discussions with planning colleagues as the actual mechanism for delivering that affordable housing policy is through the planning system.”
The council’s new housing strategy said there are plans to “scope the development and delivery of an affordable housing policy for the city.”
As well as looking as including some cheaper rent homes in private developments, it will look at “prioritising public land for affordable housing and increasing affordable housing in higher land-value areas such as the city centre.”
The new housing strategy is to be consulted on before it is adopted.
Major plans for the city include building 13,000 new homes by 2028, half of which are to be affordable.
